Italian rider Alberto Zorzi led the final class of the CSI5* Olympia London International Horse Show, won the €115,000 The Turkish Airlines Olympia Grand Prix.
The course designed by Brazilian Guilherme Jorge for 32 pairs had a final outcome in the jump-off round consisting of 12 riders, where Alberto Zorzi with the 13-year-old mare Contenga (Catoki x Contango) owned by Athina Onassis, stopped the clock in 34.05 seconds.
The class final results stayed very close from the first to third place, ensuring Alberto Zorzi with his victory 100 World Ranking Points plus a prize of €28,750 achieving an adjusted advantage of 19 hundredths of a second against the world number 6 Harrie Smolders of the Netherlands and 25 hundredths of seconds against the British Michael Whitaker.
Defined the honor place, the Dutch rider Harrie Smolders was presented with the 13-year-old gelding Zinius (Nabab of Reve x Kannan) owned by Eurohorse BVBA- Axel Verlooy, completing his course in 34.24 seconds and Michael Whitaker accompanied by the 11-year-old mare Jb’s Hot Stuff (Locarno 62 x Cavalier Royale) owned by Jayne Bean finished in 34.30 seconds.
The Top 5 was completed by Maikel van der Vleuten of Holland in fourth place with the 9-year-old mare Dana Blue (Mr. Blue x Hemmingway) registering a time of 36.11 seconds and fifth place Australian rider Edwina Tops-Alexander with the 9-year-old gelding Inca Boy van T Vianahof (Diamant de Semilly x Cash) with the last double clear round in 40.24 seconds.
The best seed of the Grand Prix was world number 3 Kevin Staut of France, who got his pass to the tiebreaker, but ultimately occupied the eighth place in 4 fouls and 35.59 seconds with the 11-year-old mare Ayade de Septon et HDC (Wandor van de Mispelaere x Belle d’Avril du Mazy).
For the Pan American Ranking the two-time US Olympic medalist Laura Kraut ranked 11th with the 11-year-old gelding Deauville S (Diamant de Semilly x Lux Z) owned by Old Willow Farms Llc, after she participated in the jump-off round and completed his course in 8 fouls and 34.34 seconds to take World Ranking Points.
