US rider Andrew Kocher drove straight to victory in the $50,000 Devon Welcome Stake, to take 50 World Ranking points with 16-year-old gelding Navano de Poheton (Cumano x Double Espoir).
Getting his jump-off classify, after a first regular round with 53 registered pairs, Andrew Kocher completed his run in 35.27 seconds to outdo also American Callan Solem and Laura Chapot. In case of Solem, who showed up with 14-year-old gelding VDL Wizard (Gentleman x Ahorn) marked a time of 36.85 seconds, while Chapot best overall rider in the 2017 Winter Equestrian Festival season, it did in 36.86 seconds only 1 hundredths of a second slower along with 13-year-old gelding Quointreau Un Prince (Diamant de Semilly x Rosire).
For Latino Ranking have two representatives managed to sneak inside the World Ranking points, highlighting the Puerto Rican rider Vasco Flores with an excellent clear jump-off round in 38.68 seconds, to finish in fifth place with 12-year-old gelding Balou 660 (Balou du Rouet x Ramiro). Alberto Michán of México finished ninth by knocking down a pole, totaling 4 fouls in 37.66 seconds with 11-year old gelding GC Chopin’s Bushi (Contendro II x Nairobi).
The best seed of the event was Olympic medalist and World No. 2 McLain Ward of United States, classifying to the jump-off, but knocking down a pole to finish in eighth place with 17-year-old gelding Rothschild (Artos x Elegant de L’Ile).
