51-year-old Colombian rider Carlos Lopez showed the way and took top honors at the €92,000 First GCL Competition.
Presenting with the 10-year-old mare Cuplandra (Upgrade x Metall) owned by S.A.S. Haras Des Grillons, Carlos Lopez secured his second 2017 Longines Global Champions Tour win by stopping the clock in 39.33 seconds during the jump-off round designed by the Italian Uliano Vezzani.
On the first day of the CSI5* LGCT Valkenswaard, Carlos Lopez takes 100 World Ranking Points with his victory plus 40 points with his third place class before, being a very productive day.
The second place was for world number 1 and Pan American Ranking Leader Kent Farrington of the United States, completing its jump-off in 40.06 seconds with the 10-year-old gelding Dublin (Cobra x Calido), while the closed fight completes it in third place, Maikel van der Vleuten of the Netherlands with the 11-year-old gelding VDL Groep Quatro (Quaprice Bois Margot x Caletto I) in 40.86 seconds.
Being valid for the First Competition of the Global Champions League, the individual results in the class were completed by German Marco Kutscher in fourth place with the last double clear round next to the 11-year-old gelding Clenur (Carinue x Ferdinand) and closed the top five ranked Belgian rider Nicola Philippaerts with the 11-year-old stallion Aikido Z (Accardi x Corrado I) in 4 fouls and 39.95 seconds.
For the Latino Ranking led by the Colombian Carlos Lopez, also had the good performance of the Brazilian Marlon Modolo Zanotelli accompanied by the 10-year-old Celena VDL (Mr. Blue x Chin Chin), being his round of 4 fouls in 40.81 seconds to occupy the sixth place.
