The week CSI 5* Longines Masters of Hong Kong came to an end with the dispute of the $400,000 Longines Grand Prix and the German duel between former world No. 1 Christian Ahlmann and Ludger Beerbaum, winning Ahlmann alongside the 10-year-old stallion Carabis Z (Caritano x Canabis Z) owned by Stoeterij Zangersheide.
Starting with 26 pairs in the regular rounds, 12 would return for the tiebreaker where Christian Ahlmann completed his field in 37.94 seconds, representing 150 FEI World Ranking points plus a prize of $132,000 which aims to shorten the lead against his fellowman Daniel Deusser, who swept the yesterday’s class and today culminated in the 18th place out of the Ranking points.
Remaining fully attached to his strategy, the winner managed to overcome the great German star Ludger Beerbaum who completed in 38.58 seconds his course with the 14-year-old gelding Casello (Casall x Carolus I) owned by Madeleine Winter-Schulze. On the other hand the double clears finished in the fifth position, closing the prestigious group of the Top 5 Max Kühner of Austria in the third one assembling a time of 38.85 seconds with the 12-year-old gelding Cornet Kalua (Cornet Obolensky x Platin), fourth place Briton John Whitaker and 12-year-old mare Ornellaia (For Pleasure x Calato) in 38.87 seconds and fifth Lorenzo de Luca of Italy in 39.21 seconds with the 10-year-old stallion Halifax van het Kluizebos (Heartbreaker x Fetish Du Pas).
