French rider Edward Levy flew to close the fourth day of CSIO5* Gijon by winning the €24,600 Speed Final with a lead of 10 hundredths of a second.
Being a very contested class, Edward Levy with the 12-year-old mare Rafale d’Hyverniere (Chef Rouge x Le Plantero) owned by Sasu Sport Equin – M. Ludovic Pigno, completed his course in 67.18 seconds to win 50 World Ranking Points, beating his countryman Nicolas Delmotte and finishing one-two for France.
Behind Edward Levy, Nicolas Delmotte was very close to beating the winner, but remained in 67.28 seconds with the 14-year-old gelding Darmani van T Heike (Grandeur x Voltaire) taking second place.
For third place Laura Renwick of Great Britain finished in 67.34 seconds with her 9-year-old gelding Dominant H (Heartbreaker x Indorado), followed by Spanish Diego Pérez Bilbao with the 10-year old gelding Quinty du Buisson (Quartz II Adelheid Z x Oberon du Buisson) in 67.89 seconds and fifth place Shane Breen of Ireland recorded a time of 68.28 seconds with the 11-year-old stallion Hallowberry Cross (Cruising x Clover Hill).
