Rising like foam has been this week CSI5* Al Shaqab in Qatar, the Belgian Gregory Wathelet who has progressively been climbing positions in the three days of competition, today completing his victory initially interesting month in terms of won FEI World Ranking points.
In company with 12-year-old stallion Citizenguard Taalex (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Alexis Z) owned by Wathelet and Alain Van Campenhoudt, the winner recorded a time of 45.75 seconds to lead the first of three double clear ending the competition.
Under the course design by the German Frank Rothenberger 36 pairs started the competition, then give way to the 9 classified to the jump-off, the second place to Omer Karaevli from Turkey and the 13-year-old gelding Dadjak Ter Putternen (Toulon x Vanitas) in time of 46.68 seconds. The third position would occupy by the French Kevin Staut and 12-year-old mare Elky van het Indihof HDC (Toulon x Thunder van de Zuuthoeve) with the last double clear in time of 47.68 seconds.
The last two places for the top five in the fourth place Daniel Deusser of Germany and the 11-year-old gelding First Class van Eeckelghem (Balou Du Rouet x Feinschnitt I Vd Richter) owned by the rider, Stephex Stables and Stal Lansink in court of 4 fouls and 48.17 seconds. For the fifth with result of 8 faults and time of 47.17 seconds French Roger Yves Bost finished one second under Deusser, but ultimately the two knockdowns with 12-year-old stallion Qoud’Coeur de la Loge (Ideal de la Loge x Tenor de la Cour * folien) left him with not chance.
