World number 2 Harrie Smolders of the Netherlands won the Prize of the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois, to close the Longines CSI Basel third day.
Being 51 pairs participating on course designed by German Frank Rothenberger, only 6 riders would return to the jump-off with Harrie Smolders showing the way next to the 13-year-old stallion Capital Colnardo (Colman x Coronado) owned by Copernicus Stables Llc.
Representing the first 2018 FEI victory for the Dutch Harrie Smolders and best seed of the CSI5* Basel, he completed his jump-off round in 39.03 seconds to take 50 World Ranking points and surpassed the home rider Janika Sprunger, who completed her round in 41.28 seconds with the 10-year-old stallion Ninyon (Colman x Coronado).
For third place and this week’s winner Werner Muff from Switzerland, completed the last double clear round in 42.15 seconds with the 13-year-old gelding Pollendr (Polytraum x Corrado), while another this week’s winner Marcus Ehning from Germany, occupied the fourth place with 15-year-old gelding Pret A Tout (Hiram Chambertin x Stew Boy) and best jump-off time of 37.38 seconds, but he knocked down a fence leaving him without a chance.
The tiebreaker was completed by Olivier Robert of France in fifth place with the 14-year-old mare Quenelle du Py (Tresor du Remon x Ryon d’Anzex) and sixth Felix Hassman of Germany with the 13-year-old stallion Cayenne WZ (Claudio x Ramirado).
Turning to the Pan American Ranking and Latino Ranking Andrew Kocher of the United States of America finished 33rd with the 14-year-old stallion Quarto Mail (Cardento x Alligator Fontaine), being his result of 8 faults in 70.21 seconds and Brazilian rider Yuri Mansur ranked 34th next to 10-year-old mare Tinkerbell (Incolor x Argentinus) totaling the same 8 fouls in 70.39 seconds.
