The conclusion of the ninth week at the Winter Equestrian Festival was the $50,000 Grand Prix CSI 2*, where with a 2-second lead Jonathan McCrea from United States took the win.
With 13-year-old gelding Special Lux (Lux x Coille Mor Hill) owned by Candy Tribble, McCrea stopped the clock in 36.74 seconds, leading a group of 45 pairs and 11 of them classified to the tiebreaker, including the winner, who added 50 World Ranking points with his result. For the second place the Irishman Paul O’Shea made a great effort to mark the best time, but recorded 38.75 seconds with 9-year-old stallion Sara Glen’s Presence (Contendro x Nekton) to be without chance. The top three finishes were completed by Canadian Jonathon Millar and 9-year-old gelding Daveau (Zento x Glennridge), completing his course at clear round in 40.89 seconds.
The Puerto Rican Freddie Vazquez completed a good week in obtaining FEI Ranking points, being again in the fourth position with the 15-year-old gelding Bachelor 4 (Baloubet du Rouet x Grosso Z) with not fouls and time of 40.91 seconds. After he finished in the same place at Welcome, obtaining 35 points in each class. His fellowmen Vasco Flores gave the totally boricua touch to the competition, being the other Latin with points in the final result, occupying the 11th place with 12-year-old gelding Balou 660 (Balou du Rouet x Ramiro), accumulating in his tiebreaker 8 fouls in 39.67 seconds. Out of the points were Enrique González of Mexico in the 19th position and Diego Vivero of Ecuador in the 26th.
