Closing of the fourth day at The Al Shira’aa Hickstead Derby Meeting with a perfect day for home riders, where Matthew Sampson take the victory at The British Speed Derby.
Introducing with the 13-year-old gelding Topflight True Carlo (Theodor x Cavaletto) owned by Christine Spanner, winner Matthew Sampson completed his perfect round in 92.73 seconds to secure 50 World Ranking Points, managing to outperform the best time of the class by Harriet Nuttall also from Great Britain, but being tested for Table C, her demolition added 4 seconds to 94.75 seconds alongside the 12-year-old gelding Silver Lift (Easy Lift x Silver Cloud).
The course designed by Britain’s Philip Bywater and featured 30 pairs, was completed in the Top 5 by first-time class winner Guy Williams taking third place with the 15-year-old gelding Casper de Muze (Triomphe de Muze x Corsaire de Vauban) in 95.59 seconds, in fourth place Derek McCoppin of Ireland in 95.71 seconds accompanied by the 12-year-old mare Whiterock Luchy Lady (Ard Vdl Douglas x Touchdown) and in fifth place also of Ireland Liam O’Meara recording a time of 97.04 seconds with the 9-year-old gelding Curraghgraigue Jack Take Bligh (Jacomar).
The only representative of the Pan American Ranking was Carlos Eduardo Mota Ribas of Brazil, retired during his execution with the 11-year-old gelding Brilexo (Phin Phin x Lux).
