The three-time Olympic medalist McLain Ward of United States dominated the first FE class of 2017 Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows, when it disputed the $35,000 New York Welcome Stake CSI 2* next to 15-year- old gelding HH Carlos Z (Chellano Z x Voltaire) owned by Double H Farm.
McLain Ward completed his double phase in 36.23 seconds, surpassing a 50-match pairs registered for course designed by Ken Krome. The second place was by Jonathan McCrea and his 13-year old gelding Special Lux (Lux x Coille Mor Hill) recording a time of 36.61 seconds, while completing the top five ranked Devin Ryan in third place setting a time of 37.37 with 10-year-old gelding Cooper (Unanime x Baloubte du Rouet), fourth place for Andrew Ramsay completing his course in 37.43 seconds alongside 11-year-old gelding Stranger 30 (Stakkato x Cheenook) and fifth place for Cloe Hymowitz in 37.92 seconds with 15-year-old mare Cylana (Skippy II x Darco).
The other main attraction of the competition apart from winner and first seed was the other American rider and Olympic medalist Bezzie Madden, who finshed in sixth polace with 11-year-old stallion Breitling LS (Quintero x Accord II).
