For the closing of the Horse of the Year Show and its CSI3* Birmingham week, Briton Nigel Coupe was crowned winner of the Leading Showjumper of the Year.
Being a big win in front of his audience, Nigel Coupe led the British one-two-three after completing his jump-off round in 38.00 seconds with the 14-year-old gelding Golvers Hill (Ricardo Z x Clover Hill) owned by Susan Simmons.
In what has undoubtedly been the best year of his career for Nigel Coupe, today he gets his fourth FEI victory, all achieved in 2017, after beating veteran John Whitaker with his 15-year-old stallion Argento (Arko III x Gasper) completing the course in 38.88 seconds and for third place Robert Smith alongside 9-year-old gelding Ilton (Dulf van den Bisschop x Calvaro) in 39.09 seconds.
Completed the Top 5 Francois Jr Mathy of Belgium in fourth place recording a time of 41.49 seconds with the 9-year-old gelding Uno de La Roque (Numero Uno x Kannan) while Dutchman Johnny Pals was fifth with the 14-year-old mare Wesselina (Cumano x Mytens XX) in 43.71 seconds with the last double clear round.
For the Pan American Ranking American rider Paris Sellon was out of the points in 22nd place, along with the 9-year-old mare Cassandra (Caressini L x Cardento) with 8 fouls and also American rider Lauren Hough with the 14-year-old gelding Waterford (Coolcorron Cool Diamond x Julio Marier XX) opted for the retirement, not being able to decipher well the question on course designed by Briton Robert Ellis.
