The penultimate day of the CSI 5* Basel in Switzerland was played by the home riders, but no doubt that Pius Schwizer became the star of the week.
Adding his second victory in two days of competition, today conquered for the day the Prize of the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois that distributed 50,500 CHF and taking 50 World Ranking points, where it occupies the position 46th at the FEI Ranking.
Featuring 10-year-old gelding Balou Rubin R (Balou du Rouet x Couleur-Rubin) owned by Pius Schwizer and Werner Rütimann, he was struggling in a tough fight with Belgian Niels Bruynseels during the jump-off round of 22 matches, advantage of 38 hundredths of a second when stopping the clock with time of 44.54 seconds.
Bruynseels with the 11-year-old mare Angel van T Hof (Chin Chin x Nabab de Reve) was second in time of 44.92 seconds, while not too distant in the third ended the Swiss Werner Muff with the 12-year-old mare HH Fleur (Darco x Bon Ami) in 45.24 seconds.
Completed the group of five top-ranked Spaniard Pilar Lucrecia Cordon and the 11-year-old mare Gribouille du Lys (Quaprice Bois Margot x Venu du Theil) with the fourth place in time of 46.06 seconds and fifth the Austrian Max Kühner with the 12-year-old gelding Cornet Kalua (Cornet Obolensky x Platin) with a time of 46.60 seconds.
World No. 1 and best seed Daniel Deusser of Germany finished in 33rd place.
