Irishman Richard Hawley completed an excellent week at the XXIII Sunshine Tour 2017, dominating the Grand Prix with 10-year-old gelding Calmond (Clarimo x Ramiro’s S.II).
In a course designed by the Italian Uliano Vezzani at a height of 1.55m, a total of 57 pairs animated the regular round, then gave way in such a complicated design to 11 classified. With as many as 8 riders retired in the first round, Richard Howley had the first double clear round of a total of four who completed the competition, stopping the clock in 39.22 seconds, being the only rider to reduce the 40 seconds, meanwhile Dutch Eric van der Vleuten with 13-year-old gelding Zigali PS (Kigali x Palfrenier) recording 40.60 seconds and third Spaniard Eduardo Alvarez Aznar in 40.91 seconds, with 12-year-old gelding Fidux (Malito de Reve x Voltaire).
For the Latin Ranking only two participants in the Grand Prix, Colombian Dayro Arroyave was the best presentation in the seventh place, which added FEI Ranking points, completing his tiebreaker in 4 faults and 41.95 seconds with 9-year-old gelding Uppercut Libellule (Jarnac SD x Papillon Rouge), while out of points finished the Brazilian rider Karina Johannpeter tied in the 19th position with Briton Barton Richard, getting 4 fouls in 77.73 seconds for his course with 14-year-old gelding Casper 150 (Concreto I x Grannus).
