The CSI5* 1.50m Massimo Dutti Trophy was won by Samuel Parot (CHI) and Whisper HE who set an incredible time from the middle of the draw to snatch victory from Harrie Smolders (NED) and Regina Z, who led from first to go in the 49-strong draw with a time that looked unbeatable. European Champion Roger-Yves Bost (FRA) and Poker des Dames put in a great performance to finish 3rd, but could only come within 2.5s of Parot and Smolders.
As the sun slowly set over the stunning Club de Campo Villa de Madrid venue, some of the fastest speed horses in show jumping took to the lush, green arena for this single timed round competition. Once Smolders had set such a blistering time from the very start with his renowned mare Regina Z, if was hard to imagine anyone would catch him. But Parot and Whisper HE cut every corner and took every risk to better Smolder’s time by 0.99s.
