Belgian rider Thierry Goffinet took a very tight victory at the CSI 3* Grand Prix of the Vilamoura Atlantic Tour, beating the Brazilian and former Latino Ranking leader Marlon Modolo Zanotelli.
Presenting with 11-year-old gelding Artuur Jh Z (Adiamo x Baloubet du Rouet), Goffient was the fastest time in the jump-off with a total of 13 classified, burying the aspirations of Modolo Zanoteli and the 11-year-old mare Sirene of La Motte (Apache d’Adriers x Uriel d’Orval) who stopped the clock in 32.12 seconds, only 2 hundredths of a second slower than the winner. With the result the Belgian was made of 50 World Ranking points and the Brazilian was credited 45 points.
Also the Brazilian Cassio Rivetti finished in fourth place to add 35 FEI Ranking points with a perfect tiebreaker in 33.37 seconds with 11-year-old stallion Lagerfeld (Lauterbach x Calvaro), both South Americans being the most outstanding by the group of Latin Ranking. Also three of his fellowmen managed to finish in the group of the best 16 classified, to add points with Adir Abreu Junior in the ninth place, representing the last double clear of the Grand Prix in 37.75 seconds with Hunter van het Indihof (Bentley van de Heffinck x Mr. Blue), then in tenth place Joao Victor Castro shot down a rail in 36.04 seconds with Quentin PJ (Revel Quidam x Shield 19) and Felipe Ramos Guinato accumulated 12 fouls in time of 35.95 seconds with Quidam’s Gray Lady (Quidam’s Rubin x Eiger I) to be ranked 12th.
