Team USA settled Brazil in the tiebreaker round to secure the $400,000 BMO Nations Cup of the Masters Tournaments at Spruce Meadows.
Composed by Lauren Hough, Charlie Jacobs, Lillie Keenan and Bezzie Madden, Team USA added a new conquest in the Nations Cup this 2017, needing again a jump-off round to get the highest honors.
Completing a first round of 8 fouls and a perfect second round which forced them to play the jump-off with the South Americans, Lauren Hough with Waterford (Coolcorron Cool Diamond x Julio Mariner XX) marked the first clear round of second round, Charlie Jacobs with Cassinja S (Carinjo x Cassini I) got the second clear and four times Olympic medalist Beezie Madden secured the tiebreaker with Darry Lou (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Nabab de Reve), completing the only double clear by Madden for her country.
For his part Brazil who also came to win two important Nations Cups this year, could only count on three of his riders, after Eduardo Menezes was eliminated, but they completed a perfect first round with Pedro Muylaert alongside Prince Royal Z MFS, Yuri Mansur with Babylotte (Dollar Du Murier x Concorde) and Pedro Veniss with Quabri de L’Isle (Kannan x Socrate de Chivre), while the second round was more complicated accumulating 8 fouls, being only Yuri Mansur who obtained a double clear round.
Already in the jump-off Team USA returned first with Beezie Madden completing a flawless and fast round in 39.21 seconds, leaving all the pressure on Pedro Muylaert with his fasted horse, but ended up stopping the clock in 39.75 seconds to escort Brazil to the winner Team.
For third place Germany finished in 9 fouls (1/8), followed in fourth place by the host Canada with 12 fouls (8/4), fifth Belgium with 18 faults (13/5), while France closed the group that participated in the two rounds with 25 fouls (8/17).
