The United States has won the Challenge Cup of the Furusiyya FEI Nations CupTM Jumping Final after an exciting tie-breaker with Australia. The team made up of Mclain Ward (Rothchild), Margie Engle (Royce), Lauren Hough (Ohala) and captain Robert Ridland, expressed their satisfaction at winning the final of the consolation prize again, but admitted that their aim had been to compete in tomorrow´s final.
France, winner on the previous occasion of the final, had to be content with third place this time round. The Spanish team, comprising Pilar Cordón, Paola Amilibia, Eduardo Álvarez Aznar and Sergio Álvarez Moya, was fourth with fourteen penalty points, followed by Venezuela and Qatar, who finished in sixth and last place.
The second day of the CSIO Barcelona began with the El Periódico Trophy, hunting competition. The French horsewoman, Pénélope Leprevost, was the fastest, with her horse Sultane Des Ibis setting her rivals a time that proved unbeatable. The Brazilian Pedro Veniss, riding Amamoi o Sandor, finished in second place, followed by Christian Ahlmann of Germany on Barco 6. Eduardo Álvarez Aznar, riding Rayanair de Riverland, was the best-placed Spaniard, in seventh position.
The Longines Cup of the City of Barcelona – the Grand Prix, and the most important individual competition of the CSIO Barcelona – will be contested at 21:00.
