At just 27 years old, the young Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten already has an impressive record: Olympic team silver medallist, team world champion, and ranked 11th in the world. Today, riding VDL Groep Eureka, he gave the other competitors no chance as he rode to victory in the Prix GL events.

Like Bertram Allen (IRL) yesterday, Maikel van der Vleuten is one of the new generation of international riders dominating the podiums of the world’s major competitions.

In this table-A event al 1.50m, the Dutch rider really demonstrated his talent al the end of the class. The Irish rider Denis Lynch/Abbervail van het Dingeshof had taken control of proceedings with his time under 54 seconds, but the Dutch rider’s tactics ultimately proved to be successful. Having finished second in the same event las year behind another Dutch rider, Marc Houtzager, Maikel van der Vleuten finally finished on the top step of the podium in this event sponsored by GL events. Denis Lynch (IRL)/Abbervail van het Dingeshof finished 2nd, with 3rd place going to the Moroccan rider Abdelkebir Ouadar and his phenomenal Quickly de Kreisker.
